Our Grazing

The craft of producing quality grass-finished beef takes time, talent and considerable effort. At Altai Meadows, we test our soil and water quality, monitor the brix or sugar value of our forages, and practice ultra high density grazing, otherwise known as mob grazing. Our herd or “mob” is moved frequently to achieve the maximum pounds per acre for just the right amount of time in any given area. In this way we trample up to 50 percent of standing forage onto the surface of the soil in order to create soil micro-habitat, increase soil organic matter and to feed soil organisms. The life on our farm starts with the life of our soil.

Healthy soil biology and mineral composition is essential to achieve a healthy and robust stand of grasses and forbs. This in turn provides our animals the nutrients and minerals they need to maintain outstanding health and vigor.
